Summary of Case Statement

Founded in 1978 by a group of dedicated volunteers, the Yuma Community Food Bank focused on the need to feed hungry children within Yuma County. Twenty-Six years later, YCFB continues to create and enhance emergency and supplemental food programs that have an educational and a nutritional component geared to the youngest of our community.

THE MISSION: The Yuma Community Food Bank’s Mission is to relieve hunger, increase self-reliance and improve the quality of life for children and families throughout southwestern Arizona.

THE VISION: The Vision Statement is, "to build a strong, well nourished community in the Desert Southwest.

With outstanding community support, YCFB grew in 1994 from a 2,000 square foot facility to a 10,000 square foot facility; and in 2001 the support continued in order to renovate a 100,000 square foot facility. This increase in facility space made way for the Food Bank to distribute 11.4 million pounds of food through 15 emergency and supplemental food programs, 52 other local non-profit agencies, throughout Yuma, La Paz and Imperial Counties and with excess produce to every county within the State of Arizona.

The customers that YCFB serves are now being classified as the "working poor." Single Moms and Dads, Two Parent Working families and the elderly on fixed incomes. These represent the 111,000 visits to the Food Bank annually. These represent the population that are working at above minimum wage jobs and still struggling to feed themselves, their children and their families.

YCFB is the largest hunger relief organization in Yuma and La Paz Counties, no other organizations provide as many services, support as many programs nor outreach to serve as many people.

The Yuma Community Food Bank has no needs or wants…

The Yuma Community Food Bank has customers that do.

The customers need us to continue what we do and to be there every step of the way. In order to maintain services YCFB accepts donations in terms of funding, food, and time – all things that people that are not hungry take for granted everyday.

For most people – the term "Hunger Pains," is only a figure of speech.

Help YCFB continue to help those that come to us for help in any way you can.
